A compact loop of just over five kilometres from the bus station of Echternach, Luxembourg's oldest town. The path climbs out of the Sûre valley into the wooded slopes above the town, repeatedly opening views over the abbey town and the river — the opposite bank is already Germany.
Echternach grew around the Benedictine abbey founded in 698 by Saint Willibrord, whose baroque buildings still define the townscape. If you want to walk further, you are standing at the gateway to the Mullerthal region and its famous sandstone rock formations.
The route makes a good introduction to the region: short, mostly shaded and superbly reachable without a car thanks to the Echternach bus station. A few climbs into the hillside forest add exercise but stay moderate.
