This loop around Luxembourg's second city reveals the surprisingly green side of the Minett. From the edge of town the path climbs into the wooded hills around the Ellergronn nature reserve, where forest, ponds and rare species now occupy former mining land.
Iron ore was mined here for over a century — the red Minett earth gave the whole region its name. At Ellergronn, the preserved buildings of the former Cockerill mine recall that era; today the site is a centre for nature education.
The trail climbs through hillside forest in several stretches and rewards you with views over the city, which was European Capital of Culture in 2022. Start and finish connect well to Esch's dense bus and rail network.
